The thin elements, sharp detail, and high relief possible
With the use of cast-iron elements made for a new kind
of light but vigorous architectural expression that affected
even conventional construction, and large glass areas were
attempted as well in masonry buildings such as the German

Fourth Avenue. It was built in 1870-72, with Henry Fernbach
the architect. An apartment house now occupies the site.
