COTTON EXCHANGE

New York’s strength as a financial capital is

largely based on its exchanges, where stocks,

bonds, and commodities are freely traded.  The

Stock Exchange has expanded and moved several

Times but the Cotton Exchange was organized only

in 1871.  This building,  designed for the Exchange

By George B. Post, was completed in 1885 at William

and Beaver Streets where a new one now stands.
